LMAO!! In my defense, I also suggested just tossin' a set of bags over the rear fender too. I sorta had a feelin' the FXRP & FXRT would be more than you would wanna deal with... ;)

Phone? Well, I was just walkin' into the most promising job fair I have been to yet when my phone rang...Sorry... :(

There's always the FXRP (Police) and FXRT (Touring)

If nothin' else, toss a set of bags over the rear fender *Poof* Instant bagger... ;)

Jeffy: the proper spelling is "wannabe" lol

re 1%r's rides: Don't know about nowadays, but back in the day, 81's bylaws said something to the effect that "NO 81 will ever be seen on a garbage barge" or something like that, it was in Hunter Thompson's book, which I have around here someplace but have no idea where it is.

If I were to have money for a new ride, I would get an FXR of some sort. Haven't ever ridden one, but am told they are the long mileage machine if you are serious about putting pavement under your tires.

DAVE: re: bars. I forgot too. Easiest way to ship them: get some foam pipe insulation 1 inch inside diameter, put it on the bars, tape it closed in a couple/four places, put a label on it with addresses, and send it. I got a set of 16's in a trade from Illinois, thats how he packed them, they got here fine.
No hurry, whenever ya got the cash. I will refund the shipping anyway.

I hear ya Dave on the Sons of Anarchy- bike - wanta bee thingy... LOL....   DId I spell that right, LOl...  Someone told me that the main character or president of the SOA club in that show rides an FXDX similiar to my scoot..     I always heard the FXR like you have was always the preferred ride of the 1%'rs.  But it sure seems these days I see alot of Street Glides, Electra's and even tour glides riding the club circuits.   They do all have the power now for sure.  But one young prospect I know- traded in his 03 Softail for a Dyna.  Said he needed a quicker get away bike to take all the street corners...

Oh Crap! That reminds me, I promised Preacher a set of 12-inch Apes for a narrow-glide! I still got 'em layin' here too. I know I also promised Weasle a coil. Got some shippin' to do here...

Jeff - This thing was totally blacked out, I honestly don't remember any chrome at all on it. And it looked exactly like the style they're usin' on SOA...

Nice lookin' bike too. But, I didn't/don't care for the tall riser/drag bar/fairing thing at all. Short risers with the bars worked great for me, even on long runs. An' it was the best bike (IMO - I've ever owned) for lane-splittin' and zoomin' around in traffic... ;)

But, that combo and a fairing just seems like the guy ridin' it would be wearin' a patch-set from SOA that he bought off eBay...

I gotta a blacked out Dyna.... w/ just enough chrome to make the black pop.   Running 12" mini apes, stock 1"risers.. handles great.

Dave:
I ran 16's on Grunt for years, both in the swingarm frame, the rigid, and the softy. I sometimes had 4 inch straight risers, mostly 1 inch stock FLH risers, but I always ran Barnett solid mount converters, (in place of the bushings, they are solid steel washers...sorta) Believe it or not, even with that, you could see out of the mirrors, the bars absorb most of the vibes.

re: drags and tall risers: T Bars don't look too bad, but most I have seen, (and the pair I have) are too narrow for a wideglide. Those new "box bars" (don't know if that is the right name, but dont know what else to call them) which are the ones that are like a tall rectangle with "ears" on the top corners don't look too bad on short risers. Grunt wears a pair of 5 inch Paughco dogbone risers, turned the wrong way, (bar mounts are in the front instead of the back) because the girder has the mounts right at the back edge of the top tree, and because I have arms like an orangutan. Only way I could get straight-armed with it. My bars are cut down to about 26 inches, with is an inch wider than my chest side to side, so my arms are straight forward, and straight up. (has to do with the comfort pocket on a rigid thing...lol)

I would like to try apes on the girder, but both my 12's and 16's are wide bottom, and on a fork that is only 6 1/2 inches wide, they look STUPID. lol

Anyway, a historical document from one who has spent an inordinate amount of life time trying crap that didn't work, or looked like Barney the Dinosaur built it.

Yesterday was sorta quiet around here. So, I decided to make a trip over the the indy, give him a few home-grown avacados and shoot the shit with him for awhile.

Anyway, come in through the back enterance and there's a pretty new blacked-out Dyna sittin' in the back-lot with a small fairing and drag-bars on about 10-inch risers. (looks like somethin' they ride in "Sons of Anarchy") And since I've seen a one of the bikes from the show in there for work and a few of the guys there have been "extras" on the show, I asked if it was one of their bikes. Nope, just a "normal" customer's bike.

Which led to a discussion. I'm obviously white, the indy is Mexican. (Latio, Hispanic or Mexican-American if ya wanna be politically correct) Anyway, he was tellin' me that it seems to be a "thing" with younger white guys and their bikes. The tall risers and drag bars with the small goofy lookin' fairing.

The guys my age are sorta middle-of-the-road with their bikes. They tend to run what's comfortable to them. Will swap bars out until they find the right combination. Also, one of the biggest 1% clubs have a lot of their bikes set up that way. And that the Mexican's (All ages) are more into the ape-hangers...

Also told me that the tall risers with drag bars handle like a POS. I know that when I ran the drag bars on my bike, it seem to handle an' respond a lot better than it does with the 12-inch apes. ( I only had 4-inch risers) I figured that there was a bunch of movement between the risers and the trees with the rubber bushings. He said that there was little or no movement there. I know the 16-inchers I've got on the bike now move around a bit on the bushings. I figured the tall risers would too...

Anyway, I figured I'd toss that out there to see what sorta reaction or response I'd get from it. I know, I need to get a life...LOL
