I guess you could call him a "Newbie" Brad Keselowski, about 25 years old and his second year in the series. Pretty serious contender for the title. After yesterday's race is 4th in points, 27 behind the leader and Johnson is 6th, 43 points behind the leader. Don't sound like a lot of points. But, it actually is.
Mathematically, Johnson is still in it. But, the 5 guys ahead of him are gonna have to have a really shitty day in order for him to take the championship. Even Keselowski, only 27 down is gonna have a tough time of it. He finished 17th yesterday. That didn't help at all. Dropped one spot in the standings. But, the kid is a tough competitor and has a pretty good team behind him...

I heard something on the radio yesterday about Jimmie might not be able to do it, or something about some newbie that might steal his thunder. ( remember, I do not follow nascar, so I do not know what that is all about)
Weather here is miserable, supposed to have snow in VA either today or tonight, at the moment it is 40 and raining here. I am about 100 miles south of Martinsville.

| Martinsville this weekend. From the fastest at Taladega last weekend to 1 of the shortest tracks tomorrow. Hard to predict who is going to win from week to week...

Charlotte, NC:
Jeff Gordon announced today that he was firing his entire pit crew. This announcement followed Gordon's decision to take advantage of President Obama's scheme to employ Harlem youngsters. The decision to hire them was brought about by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from Harlem were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment, whereas Gordon's existing crew could only do it in 8 seconds with thousands of dollars worth of high tech equipment.
It was thought to be an excellent and bold move by Gordon's management team, as most races are won or lost in the pits. However, Gordon got more than he bargained for..
At the crew's first practice session, not only was the inexperienced crew able to change all 4 wheels in under 6 seconds, but within 12 seconds they had changed the paint scheme, altered the VIN number, and sold the car to Dale Earnhardt Jr. For 10 cases of Bud, a bag of weed, and some photos of Jeff Gordon's wife in the shower.

| Yeah, those "driving schools" probably don't have that stuff. Most of the amateur racers don't either ($$$) The "Cup" cars have a personal A/C system for the driver. I don't know if its an actual "A/C" or just pulling cool air in from outside. They have a hose, sorta like a vacuum cleaner hose, connected to their helmets. Keeps their heads cooled off a bit...

| Friend of mine who is a rabid nascar fan did the "pay 180 dollars, you get to drive 10 laps at speed" deal in Richmond about a month ago. He said it was almost unbearable. There is no air pump/cooling at all, the only water they get is at a pitstop he told me. Only air is what comes in at speed, but that ain't much, at them speeds open a vent, your car flips over. lol

100 degrees? I don't know about that. I think you're estimating the temp way too low...
"Shot" the inside of a "Super Late-Model" Car we were helpin' out with usin' a "infrared" temp gun after a 50-lap run. It was 130 in there! Can only imagine what its like in a cup-car...

seriously, when is this Chase thing over, or are they half way through it, or just starting or what? Like I told Jeff, I never heard of it before. (maybe because I do not follow Nascar?)
btw: what "NASCAR" really means: (heard this on the radio)
"Non-Athletic Sport Centered Around Rednecks"
lol What can I say Preacher? LOL...
The first race in the "Chase" is today. It runs a total of 10 races, last one is November 20th at Homestead, Florida.
I think they started the "Chase" about 8 or 9 years ago...
I'm not sure of the "why" of it either...

How can ya not love that!! LMAO!

Actually Jeff, its 12 drivers competing in the "Chase"...
The "Top 10" through-out the entire season based on points. Then, there are 2 "Wild-Card" picks that come in based on the "Top-20" in points with the most wins.
They reset the points for the chase at something like 2000 or 3000 (which is much higher than the non-chase teams have) Each win through the season is worth 10 bonus points during the chase. So, take a driver like Brad K. He had a decent run towards the end of the "regular season" and racked up a few wins. But, he made the chase as a "Wild-Card". He's got more points than Stewart or Earnhardt because of his wins...
Then, they just run 10 more races and which-ever dirt-dauber has the most points from goin' fast and turnin' left when they get to Homestead, FL (or maybe before) wins the championship and get the beer poured over his head... LOL
Gotta feelin' that Gordon's gonna do it this year Jeff...

so they take the best 11 crackers, and put them in dirtdauber cars on tracks where they only gotta make left turns and whoever wins the most gets beer poured on their head and a trophy, right?
SORRY, JES COULDN'T HELP MYSELF!!!
but, seriously, I never heard of that. I did see a BUNCH of the team trucks going up 85 last week or the week before to Richmond for something, (guy at the factory I pick up at said it was Richmond)
I am going up there the 16th of October, Departure Bike Works is having their annual swapmeet- hoping to find some 4 inch Z bars, and maybe a new used seat.

RSDF And nothing about crackers or dirtdaubers either, LOL! I'm tickled Preacher... . RE: " the Chase" is a system NASCAR came up with a few yrs ago to make the championship more interesting. The Chase is made up of 11 drivers who earned enough points thus far this season to be eligible to compete in the chase (Last 10 races) which will end in Homestead FLA in Nov. Whoever earns the most points or finish's highest in these last 10 races will win the 2011 Championship.
