| Here they got hit 3 times in a row.....they planted, it got really cold ......they replanted.......it got hot n dry....replanted again.....and it flooded. Weird weird weather this year! Some only replanted twice....but quite a few three times, and gave up. This year will wipe an awful lot of the small family farms out.

I guess the nice folks have to learn to sit on their butts and scream for help...huh? lol There's no doubt that good folks are still out there. They live all over the country. Every state has them.
I PRAY they NEVER "learn to sit on their butts and scream for help"
Unfortunately, the media tends to focus on the ones that make the most noise and draw the most attention.
Because that what sells advertising and gets ratings.
Those same good folks don't like to draw attention for the most part.
Talking about it would be like bragging "Oh lookie! This is what I did!"
They tend to be humble and hardworking.
Not looking for a handout, looking for a hand.
And more than willing to give one.
Not looking for praise.
Not looking for attention.
Not looking for a payment for their time, trouble or services.
They let the results speak for themselves.
Knowing that they "Did the right thing".
Exactly right....I was being sarcastic on the "sit on their butts n scream" comment....the story on the handicapped folks that FEMA "couldnt" help really got to me.....

Babe, Thats the only way most people around here survived after the hurricanes, neighbors helping neighbors. FEMA did zero for most of the people around here and then the insurance companies were not much better..........

Midwest folk tend to know better than to rely on the government......look at all the "help" the farmers have gotten...HA!
During a disaster...I am glad I live where I live.....the people here will pitch in and help each other out..!!

Has the new media done a follow up on the people that left New Orleans and we sent to Utah, Iowa, Wisconsin and other states? I haven't seen but one and the lady had no intention of leaving Utah because she and her kids had a much better life, house and job in Salt Lake.........
You know thats kind of funny now that I think about it. All the times I have gone to help out after hurricanes and even when it happened in my town. I never saw a TV crew in a white area except to show all the destroyed boats. I wonder why that is???
Anybody even have a good guess????
Your statement "they become predators almost instantly and will prey on themselves or anybody that comes in range of them" says it all. Someone has to protect them from themselves...
We had folks that came here from the south that won't go back either. Better life, better opportunities...
I also don't remember hearing about the mid-west asking FEMA to do much. The local governments had things pretty much under control and were prepared. If I'm wrong, and I could be, I sure haven't heard anything to dispute it. FEMA made a big show of it..making sure we all knew there were here. Big Fuckin deal. Local PEOPLE have it handled..not the government. People help each other..thet Gov. just mucks it all up.

| kinda makes you wonder , when we had the floods here last spring , they said we didnt have enough damage for fema to come in , had to rely on local gov , and the red cross (ect). most of the people here who got flooded out pretty much had to rebuild on their own , although the gov did provide some loans , as the govner declared it a disaster zone .

Disabled or handicapped folks living in a group home that got devasted by the flooding..got kicked to the curb. They didn't "own" it..so too bad...and no help for the folks running the home.. A local church took these people in.......but it was a horribly sad story......FEMA wouldnt step in and help them! And I guess the pastor's daughter was getting married that weekend.....at the church......but they all managed quite well. FEMA? Yeah...right.
