Propery taxes were killing folks here. So, this is what California did back in the late 70s. Now, you'd think that this is a good thing, I think it still is. But, they're (politicians) are using this as an excuse to cut services. The state doesn't have the money for all the social programs that everyone wants.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_13_(1978)

I live in Los Angeles county, sales tax here is 8.75 percent on everything, except uncooked food items. This tax varies based on which county you live in.

I don't remember off the top of my head what the percentage is for state income tax. I hear we're one of the higher states in the country.

As far as other taxes go? Pick something, there's a tax on it...

Don't feel alone you guys.  Here in good ole Indiana we got a tax for everything under the sun...   Sales Tax just went to 7% last week... Property taxes are up 1/3 across the State,   however supposedly property taxes in our County are gonna go down 30% later this year.  I will believe it went I see it.....

We have a tax for everything here in this state. We pay property, income, and "personal property' for our biz. The fuel tax is high as all hell...What a joy being a 'good' citizen...:?
