Where was that useless bitch Barbara Boxer and why didn't she get into this one? I'd sorta like to have a job for a few more years. Kinda got used to bringing home a paycheck every week...

Talent-Lieberman bill would keep C-17 line open

The Boeing Co.'s C-17 Globemaster III production line in St. Louis would stay open under an amendment passed Thursday by the U.S. Senate.

The amendment, sponsored by U.S. Sens. Jim Talent (R-Mo.) and Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) would authorize a contract for up to 42 new C-17 transport aircraft and keep production lines open until a further study of the military's needs is needed. In addition, it requires the Secretary of Defense to certify the need for additional C-17s after looking at additional requirements of the military.

A draft version of a recent U.S. Department of Defense study recommended no more purchases of C-17s beyond the 180 currently in the works, Talent said.

Boeing's C-17 line employs about 1,800 workers in Missouri and generates $776 million in economic activity. The C-17 is the primary air transport used by the U.S. military to transport forces and cargo overseas.

"This amendment is crucial to ensure that the United States has the airlift we need to deploy and sustain our forces overseas," said Talent, in a statement.

Chicago-based Boeing Co.'s (NYSE: BA) Integrated Defense Systems unit, its largest subsidiary, is based in St. Louis and is the area's second-largest employer.

If it makes anyone feel better, here in Texas we have had conceal carry for a very long time .....it works. The state colaborates with other states that have conceal carry and will allow other state's licensed citizens carry. Timing in this issue is rather interesting, read the following URL about a local 'grandma' that shot an intruder a couple of times.

Something else that is funny is to listen to the 911 tape, you can hear the gun go off. the guy says 'you shot me' ...the grandma says "I told you I was gonna shoot you"

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Voters in famously liberal San Francisco overwhelmingly approved measures banning handguns and encouraging schools to keep military recruiters off campus, according to election results on Wednesday.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting results from Tuesday's election, Measure H, which prohibits San Franciscans from owning handguns and bans the sale of all firearms and ammunition in the city, passed with 57.9 percent of the vote.

The National Rifle Association said the measure's passage would prove a "hollow victory" for gun control activists and that it would file a lawsuit challenging the measure.

"Lawful residents of San Francisco are being stripped of their freedom because of an illegal measure that defies common sense. We will fight this outrageous assault on the rights of law-abiding San Franciscans and I believe that we will prevail," association vice-president Wayne LaPierre said in statement.

Measure I, a largely symbolic "declaration of policy that the people of San Francisco oppose the federal government's use of public schools to recruit students for service in the military," passed with 59.7 percent of votes.

The measure will have no effect on military recruiters as they are allowed on school grounds under federal law, according to U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Ellen Krenke, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Defense. - Reuters -

I saw that on the news...is that right??..they are outlawing you from having a handgun in your own home also???? People better wake up in a hurry on that one..Here in WI it is looking like they finally will have enuf votes to pass the concealed carry bill..allowing us to legally conceal our handguns..There is no law against openly carrying..but you will be arrested for menacing..
