I know what ya mean about the trucks Carl...

There are several quarries just south and a few to the east also. Learned the lesson of busted windshields as soon as I started driving. Trucks back in those days weren't required to cover their loads. Now, they are. But, it doesn't help a lot. Still end up feeling "Sand-Blasted" after going just about anywhere on a freeway around here. One of the big reasons I went with a 3/4 helmet. Helps a lot (I miss the old days of no helmet though) Half-shell, goggles and a bandana just weren't workin' for me...

Years ago, (Pre-Helmet law days, I was wearin' a helmet though) I was ridin' to work on the freeway and saw this piece of 3/4-inch gravel get tossed up by a truck, it was like a guided missile! Coming straight at the top of my head. Nothing I could do to avoid it either. Bounced right off the top of my helmet. Glad I was wearin' on that day...

I got hit in the neck by a "June-Bug" a few years ago too. Paula and I were in a "rough" area, goin' down a 4-lane road doin' about 40-45 mph and I thought some one had taken a pot-shot at me! Paula couldn't understand why I pulled the bike into a gas station so quick. Damn that thing hurt! Checked for blood, all I got was a handful of bug guts...LOL...

one time i took a big june bug in the forehead.  Every year Iend up replacing a windshield in either my wifes or my car from a rock impact.  I have wondered what that would feel like getting hit in the teeth or head with a rock while running at 80 MPH.  I suspect it wouldn't feel like having Faith Hill giving you a message.  It would feel like a hockey puck.

Up here in MN there are trucks hauling rock that is not covered and above the sides.  The rocks bounce off cars and you can be several cars back from a truck and get hit.  I was in a car once about 5 car lengths back from a semi.  All of a sudden the back doors flew open and I saw he had sheets of steel in the back.  The truck hit a bump and a 1/4 sheet about 3x3 feet came flying out.  It cought the updraft and flew over my car.  I saw it land in my rear view mirror.   That was a close call.  Another time I saw a pickup with an open tailgate that had a spare tire in the bed.  Of course that idiot hit a bump and the tire flew out.  The tire hit the highway and righted itself to proceed rolling along.  It crossed the median and went into on coming traffic.

Animals, rocks, and idiots..........

Shit...
I feel lucky. All I've ever hit while on my bike has been a pigeon and a Honda...

marc: I had to stop the other day for turkeys to trot across the road on my way home from Church. I counted 27. They are getting so thick around here, they need to open the season more or something. I recently hit one with the 18 wheeler, took the windshield out, sprayed me with glass. No fun at all.

friday while on my way deer hunting on Interstate 94 I came upon an ambulance, a fire truck and 4 state patrol cars.  I hen saw a Harley wrapped up in a ball with a deer entangled in the mess.  There did not seem to be a since of urgency.  They were all standing around looking at the mess.  The only conclusion I could make is the rider didn't survive.
