| I'm running a take off sporty CV carb on my 79 shovel. I got a manifold from Jireh that bolts right up to the shovel and the CV slides right in and I reused the shovel air cleaner with some minor mods. The bike starts right up and accelerates smoothly with no popping or spitting. The plus part is the manifold was cheap and the carb was free.................. I kinda agree with Dave about the S&S Super E. I ran one of them also on a different shovel both were 80" motors.. I liked the Bendix dual jet better. Was more fuel effecient in my opinion.

Damn, this is sorta like an oil (Dino Vs. Synth) thread... LOL
Not sure if the S&S "E" is the best choice for that engine. Might want an earlier version, like a "B", without the accelerator pump. I know others that are usin' the "B" on 80-inch Shovels and love it...
EDIT - I might still have an old Kein carb layin' around. It came off my 87 Evo. If it is, it won't have the choke plate attached. But, it's yours if ya want it...

| agree with jeff , seems the guys runnin shovels have the best luck with s&s, the jets in them should let you tweek it for your altitude . good luck.

| In my opinion the best carb for a stock 74 inch Shovelhead is a Bendix Carb with a low speed and high speed adjustable jet. I had the same problem as you yrs ago. Through away the Keihn it was junk. At the time I think the double jet Bendix was like $160 bucks probably more than that now. S&S Super E would be my second choice for that motor.

| I need some help with my 1977 FLH. It came stock with a Kein carb, bui it is worn out. This bike is totally stock and I would like to know what the best replacment is so I can keep the stock air filter housing for value purposes. I should note that I live by Denver, Co, so I'm dealing with altitude- not enough "O" to let it run. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Mark
