| Yeah these fuely tc's do run hot. Funny thing my blacked out TC -which has a cv carb runs cool. Has a good 2 into 1 Bub exhaust and a good breather. Even when its 100 out - you can touch the heads and their not piping hot. Last of the easy to tune bikes, LOL!

id be carefull jeff if those plugs are white its runnin hot . mine turned white when i had the intake gasket leak a couple of yrs ago , to much air not enough gas , new gaskets cured the problem ,your getting the same indication of leaness just a different cause.the tc ,s run a lot hotter than my evo so any thing adding to the running hot isnt good. But, that don't mean it ain't worth a shot. He can always put the stock air cleaner back on it.
Or, he can learn that "HD" really stand for "hundred dollars" an' keep doin' things to make it run better, $100.00 at a time... Naw Dave I been around longer than that .. Thats why we did the work ourselves. LOL! We have not bought a new breather or pipes... May have to get a tuner worse case scenario if it turns out to be running too hot,. Gonna pull the plugs and ck em out. Should be a chocoloate color- not white we're hoping. Checked his plugs last nite the front cyl plug was white the rear was almost white. I read where the fuels today burn quite clean. So the big thing to look for is blistering... Didn't see any of that yet. Just gonnna watch it. Its not pinging or missing.. So thats good.

Right on Weas.... I just called Manns HD in Columbus, IN. They have a good service dept reputation. I was just curious what they thought about what the boy did. I told him the baffles' have been removed, but its running good. He said pull the plugs. IF they're white its too lean. He recommended the SE tuner if it needs richened up. Still running the stock breather. He suggested leaving it alone. Would just make it leaner if we opened it more.... BUt yeah , worse case scenario would have to get a power commander or similar tuner if it turns out the bike is running too lean. So far so good...

| jeff like dave said ya better have the loot if ya wanna fool with the tc,s . most of the guys i know that have done serious mods to their tc buy a power commander 3 thay aint cheap but the give you the capability to change your settings no matter how many times ya change things , much better than a reflash from hd imho.

| Thanks men for the expert opinions... I need your thoughts on this, since it is running fine with the guts out of the stock pipes, which really amazes me... His bike currently has just the stock breather set up... Do you think if he puts on a more open air filter set up that that may effect the FI tuning ? Have always been told... If if runs good leave it alone, lol!

Best breather on the market for flow is the S&S style. Also, that curved front thing is no good in the rain, unless it is just a sprinkle. Friend had one even with the sock, still drowned in a hard rain at speed.
You can get the S&S style to fit just about any carb. Check Jireh.
RSDF S&S also makes a replacement tear-drop filter housing with slots in the forward edge and I also believe that they have it machined/trimmed a bit in the same area. It isn't as "deep" as a standard filter housing. Exposes more of the filter to the elements. But, the claim is more horsepower...
I got a spare housing. Maybe one of these days I'll drill an' trim it...

| Talk about luck.. My boy took off his stock mufflers, big ole suckers, took out the baffles and to my amazement it sounds good no popping, backfiring.. Sounds good. Took it up the road runs fine. I told him your lucky! I said don't change a thing..

Yup...Black Box ECM which runs your EFI is set for EPA specs which are very lean to say the least...The minute I changed my air filter and pipes things went to hell...Not like a carb where you can turn a screw or two...I got a PowerCommander III and had it re-tunned...

Dave wrote: My 2-cents, I think it would probably breathe better without the fancy cover on it. Just an open element... Your right Dave... A K&N open filter for example.. Right on. Seems like it would suck water if raining.. However, there is some sorta sock that fits over the element if ridin' in the rain thats supposed to keep water out of the intake.
