Know what you mean Weas - my bikes 12 yrs old almost 13.  Been a good bike so far.  Of course I've only had this one a little over a yr and a half.   The boys new Wide Glide seems to be a quality machine.  Thats him sittin' on it there in my Avatar.  He rides the hell out of it.  He's already put 6,000 miles on the old boy since April.  Just needs some new pipes..  Too quiet, LOL!

I put in the new accel relay, and prblem is solved. I examined the old one and was amazed how clean it was for 31years old. I took it apart and saw some oxidation on the contacts, and the positioning of the contacts seemed sloppy with too much play. Then I noticed a 2004 date code. Weird, a I don't recall ever replacing it. I had it at the dealer for service around that time, but don't remember the reason. Too many beers.....too much smoke....and being a geezer must be showing signs.

Anyway....the relays are plastic junk without any sealing.....no wonder they fail.

By the way......today my wife saw a Harley display at the fair and asked me if I wanted to lok at them. I about fell over.......I have no money, but she seemed to let me dream.......maybe all these years of asking is producing results.......I think when I retire I will get a new bike......

Pretty much what Weasle said. But, check things out a bit first. That thing is old enough to where the button may be goin' on ya. Take a couple minutes with a test-light to see if that's the problem first.

The relay is basically a "Bosch" style 5-pin. Only thing I saw different was a mounting tab with a hole for a bolt in it. Should be able to pick those up for less than $10.00...

Hope that helps...

if it clicks  when  ya hit  the button  its bad , or if it does nothing at all  its bad. easy fix  they  just are bolted to the frame somewhere (not sure where on a sport )and plug into  your electrical system . i think  the last one i replaced was 30$ good luck with it.

How do I know if my starter relay is going? I have to hit the start button a few times to get it to crank. Sometimes it does it normally with one push, other times I might have to depress it a couple or more times until the starter kicks in.
