Bro: if the air pressure checks out, and you havent lost a weight:
get the front end up in the air, i.e., just clearing the ground. Grab the legs down low and pull them toward you, then push them back. Any play in the neck bearings, you need to tighten them up. If the lowers move on the tubes, you need new bushings (not a big deal)
if everything is ok, grab the wheel at 12 and 6 and try to move it both ways sideways, (i.e., push pull) shouldnt move but just a hair, (bearing end play)
if everything seems ok, try centering the fork:put the bike back on the ground, then,
loosen your tube top caps JUST A LITTLE, i.e., JUST LOOSE,
loosen the pinch bolts on the bottom tree
tighten the axle to spec, then loosen the cap on the fork leg.
pick the bike up off the stand. hold the front brake, and bounce the fork at least 6 times, (6 compressions) then, have the mrs tighten the cap on the leg, while YOU hold the brake and keep the bike upright. then, have her tighten the top caps and the pinch bolts, (dont worry about torquing them, just have her get them as tight as she can) NOTE: reason I say wife, I got no one around here to help me, so my Mrs does...after all these years she is GOOD too..lol) If you got a helper, all the better
after you get everything snugged back up, sit the bike on the stand, torque everything and go for a test ride..no promises, but all this stuff doesnt cost anything but time.
hope this helps,
RSDF

| Have you ever had the front end apart? It may be time... When was the last time you changed your fork oil? Your springs could be on their way out...A car with bad shocks will do the same...Over inflated tire will make you hop too...Front end dampening problem...Don't know...

jeffy ole boy wrote: Tires do weird things sometimes.... I heard of a similar story recently... Come to find out all it was -- was that his air pressure was all outa whack. Front tire pressure had bled off to like 20 psi... Took it up to around 40 psi and that took care of the irregular handling he was encountering. Probably anyhere between 35 to 40 is where your pressures both front and rear should be...... Outside of that only other thing I can think of is maybe a wheel weight fell off and/or is just out of balance? Hope this helps! Lastly could even be a bad wheel bearing, doubtful though..... I'd check those air pressures first.......

I have a weird problem with the bike. Before I tear into it, I figured I'd ask here...
New rubber on the front less than a 1000 miles ago, rear has probably 5000 miles on it...
Not sure if any of that makes any difference or not.
I rode it to work yesterday, and when I got on it to go home, I got on the freeway and before the first off-ramp, it was "bouncing" like the wheels were out of round. Real strange sensation. Almost like the bike was "Hopping". As long as I kept the speed down, I could ride it. But, as soon as I took it up to or close to freeway speeds, it came back.
Any ideas?
